Hawaii Islands News is a planned Communities News newsroom. It has not launched, and it has published no journalism. The region it is for: The Hawaiian Islands, all four counties. Its address, hawaiiislands.news, holds a foundation site today: the region's public bodies, their meeting schedules and how to take part, collected in one place.
Before it publishes anything, we measure the local outlets already covering the region, every day, with the same blinded instrument that scores Alaska's board. An outlet is on the board only if our crawler can actually measure it from what it publishes openly: a working feed, full article text without a paywall, and steady local reporting. Outlets that block our crawler or serve only teasers are not listed, and we never work around a refusal.
The board, being set up#
We are checking which of the region's outlets our crawler can measure. The board opens once at least three of them pass, and it names no outlet before then.
